How To Make An RV Look Like New

Posted on

Have you decided that you want to live in a recreational vehicle permanently, or are you using an RV for temporary living while you travel? Either way, if you have decided to save money by purchasing a previously owned RV, you may need help in making it look like new, especially if you have chosen a vehicle that has had a lot of use. Here are some ideas that will help you to create a lovely and cozy little home.

Assess what needs to be done first. Divide your list into two parts, the inside of the recreational vehicle and the outside.

The Inside

How about the built-in furniture? Does it smell nice and clean? How has the fabric worn? Does any wood on the furniture have major scratches on it? You may be able to restore that furniture by just cleaning it up yourself. However, if it needs to be totally replaced, you may have a major expense ahead of you. Consider pulling out the built in sofas and replacing them with futons. Your RV probably has a built in sofa behind a movable table. If so, you can even pull that sofa out and replace it with comfortable, small folding chairs.

What is the condition of the carpets in the RV? Just because it started out with a carpet floor, don't feel like it needs to be replaced with more carpet. Think of how much easier it would be to have wooden floors in it. Faux wooden floors are not heavy and they are so easy to install that you can probably do the job yourself. The best part is that things like dirt, mud and spills are easily cleaned up.

The Outside

Hopefully you've been lucky enough to purchase a recreational vehicle that looks great on the outside. However, if you haven't been that lucky, don't despair. Of course, you'll start by thoroughly power-spraying it, whether you do it yourself or whether a professional cleans it. While you're at it, check the tires and the tire covers to see if they need to be replaced. If the RV has been in an accident, or even if it has had minor damage, take it to professionals who can repair delaminated RV walls or who can do a complete sidewall replacement. The same company who does your outside body repair will also be able to check your awning to see if it needs to be professionally repaired or if it needs to be totally replaced.

If you are happy with the company that assisted you in your RV repair, it's smart to get names of other companies that you can use when you travel to new places. Keep that information in a safe place that can be easily accessed. For more information, contact companies like RV Service Center Of Santa Cruz.
